late-1990s CNNP 'Big Blue Mark' Iron Cake
late-1990s CNNP 'Big Blue Mark' Iron Cake
Theasophie is so pleased to bring this calibre of tea to the table. A harmonious balance of youthful vigor and aged aromatics in a tribute to the classic era of Pu'er.
This cake comes from the same source as our 1999 CNNP ‘Original Ecology’ and, while we can’t be certain of their production histories, they are remarkably similar. We know this is comparing sheng and shou. What we are referring to is the intentionality placed in all aspects of craft, from leaf sourcing through production and subsequent aging. The intention of the maker is clearly conveyed in the liquor.
While the meticulous attention to craft is a distinct quality of the artisanal revival, the styling of this tea is also a homage to the classic Blue Mark teas of the 1950s-60s. Storage has been considered, displaying in distinct leaf stripes and clean wrappers.
We’ve been enjoying this tea for several years, enjoying it more and more as the compression begins to release. The youthful intensity of an Iron Cake is yielding into a liquor that expresses wood and medicine aromatics.
Full cakes are 400g.
