Deep amber liquor and notable viscosity make for a resinous texture and flavor profile with subtler notes pervading the liquor. Experience our own Jingmai Mountain rendition of Yunnan red tea.
In the late-2000's, there was an effort in the Jingmai Mountains to convert monoculture, terraced taidi tea to ecological shengtai gardens. My father-in-law, a skilled herbalist with a working knowledge of biodiversity, was asked to participate in this transition and to share his methods with other villagers. This included reducing planting density, interplanting with fast-growing trees and allowing tea shrubs to assume a more natural form. Many of these shrubs have now transitioned into trees and become prolific producers.
Our 'Feral Red' is made from these decades old naturalized plantings. It is a homage to the red soils of Jingmai Mountain - full-bodied and rustic, with a fragrance profile that transforms gracefully over time. Every year, we try to hold some of this tea back for aging, but just can't seem to keep it in stock.
