The Path of Tea: Spiritual Ecology &
the Ancient Tea Gardens of Southwest China

Tea culture represents a profound plant - human symbiotic relationship emerging from prehistory to arrive in the present, each leaf and bud the outward expression of a root that penetrates deeply into the mysterious origins of consciousness. It is a ritual continuity in which tea evolves from mild stimulant to medicinal substance, from beverage to elixir, imparting health, social, and spiritual benefit to humanity.

Soft Medicine is pleased to welcome Theasophie into our community. Brian Kirbis has been living and working in the old-growth agroforestry tea gardens of southwest China since 2006. He and his wife, Su Yimu, are based in her ancestral village of Mangjing in the Jingmai Mountains, among the oldest tea producing regions in the world. They are currently working to establish a nonprofit agroforestry tea farm & spiritual ecology center dedicated to the flourishing of biodiversity and intangible cultural heritage in the heartland of global tea culture.
